What do you do as a musician when you hit the metaphorical wall? You are seemingly living the dream as a full-time musician; writing, teaching and playing gigs, but things are just not clicking - you don’t connect with your new songs, you are overly critical and start to reject your previous work and that elusive momentum seems just out of grasp? This is where David Latto found himself in 2016 and his drastic next step was to step away, taking a full-time day job in a field totally unrelated to music. Such was his disillusionment at the time this felt like a lifeline, ‘at that moment in time I didn’t know how to proceed on any level with my music.’ However, the magnetic draw to music is a deep rooted one and it turned out that two years in a new job was actually the catalyst for Latto’s return, with his stunning new EP ‘Show Me How To Feel’. That time and space was used to process and ponder the creative process, why his songs weren’t working in the band dynamic and ultimately how to move forward as an Artist. With that sense of perspective Latto found himself embracing the creative process once again.
The songs on this EP represent a movement towards more honest and personal songwriting, the artist having come full circle, from beginner, to trying everything on for size, learning the craft, to being in some respects a beginner again. Re-learning how to write from this new place Latto found his songs more fully realised and an inner confidence to trust his creative muse a little more. The output of that growing confidence is an EP of covering a variety of emotions and situations.
