Nowadays it is a rare thing indeed to find a voice that has character and is unmistakeable as the artist- Lorna is such a rarity. Her records have been described as ‘songs of beauty, distinction and subtlety shot through with fragility and delicacy’ Musician Magazine

She is no slouch when it comes to touring either…. She has toured Europe and the UK extensively, often with a full band and more recently acoustically stripped back ( arguably the best way to hear and enjoy her performance) with simply guitar and voice. She is now playing some dates with a more residential feel, as ‘Lorna PLUS’ during which she will highlight some new material and some old favourites with guest appearances

It’s the bluesy grit and determination in her songs that have attracted some truly legendary artists to work with her like Loudon Wainwright III, Janis Ian, Martin Stephenson, James Grant, BertJansch, John Martyn, Jimmy Somerville , Eric Bibb and Eleanor McEvoy to name but a few

Rosie Bans is a Glaswegian independent artist. Throughout her intelligent sophisti-pop songwriting we are treated to exciting melodies and interesting chord progressions underneath lyrics that tell tales of honesty, deceit, family arguments, identity crisis and romantic differences.

"Never lacking emotion, Rosie’s lyrics can often hide hard-hitting story lines” (Louder than War). She pulls out what’s living just under the skin and drapes it over memorable choruses and rhythmic piano grooves for all to see.

Drawing inspiration from, and having been compared to the likes of Imogen Heap, Amanda Palmer and Tori Amos, Rosie is a far cry from the usual female, piano-pop singer-songwriters that dominate the industry today as she is bulldozing her way through the crowds, kicking and swearing and screaming to be heard.

"A talented writer of intensity and integrity" (The Musician Magazine)
“Take heed of her flame red hair as the fiery Glaswegian unleashes her wrath and emotion on us all.” (Louder than war)

Leith Jazz and Blues Festival 2019- Jed Potts Trio

Jed Potts Trio have been supplying only the deepest of grooves and the rudest of shuffles since 2008. The trio is completed (most of the time) by Jonny Christie and Charlie Wild on drums and bass respectively and are all about general musical rascallity, although usually within the confines of a 12 bar structure, mind you.
You can mostly catch J around Edinburgh but every once in a while they get out and play a festival and they've also opened for the likes of yer Ian Siegal, yer Nimmo Brothers and yer The Hoax, to name-drop but a few

Check out this video of them from the last festival. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXJslNF1Kho&feature=share

Leith Jazz and Blues Festival 2019- Ali Afflecks Gin Mill Genies

ALI AFFLECK'S GIN MILL GENIES

It’s a warm welcome back this week to Scotland’s leading exponent of early jazz, Ali Affleck. Representing the pioneers of early music and particularly its forgotten heroines, Ali's fresh interpretations breathe new life into old school jazz.
With a mix of piano-centred prohibition era blues, gospel and jazz, Ali’s repertoire ranges from the saucy and fun to the dark and sinister and all performed by a stellar band featuring Colin Steele, trumpet, Steve Hamilton, piano, Roy Percy, bass and Max Popp, drums. What a line-up, and what a night in store...
About Ali Affleck:

“Music from another place and time that puts a smile on the faces of the here and now…” Jim Gilchrist, Scotsman

Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival 2019 Jed Potts & The Hillman Hunters

Guitarist and vocalist, Jed Potts, is a blues musician who is starting to really make waves in the Scottish blues scene. He’s got the ability to move into a different gear, if you’re into the real blues. Lately, he’s been in Memphis recording and playing with US star, Brandon Santini and he’s moved to a new level. The Hillman Hunters are his electric trio, playing blues inspired by 50s and 60s American greats, from Freddie King to Howlin’ Wolf. Whether laying back into a Freddie King ballad or digging-in to a hypnotic Muddy Waters groove, they deliver gritty blues played with passion and power.

A regular night held by the talented singer songwriter Lorna brooks and joined by a special guest each time. This time it’s the talented singer-songwriter Carol Laula. Tickets are £8 + bf and available via this link https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/lorna-brooks-plus-special-guest-tickets-55508973835

Nowadays it is a rare thing indeed to find a voice that has character and is unmistakeable as the artist- Lorna is such a rarity. Her records have been described as ‘songs of beauty, distinction and subtlety shot through with fragility and delicacy’ Musician Magazine

Scotland is famed the world over for its exports and one of its finest has to be singer-songwriter, Carol Laula. With a style which bobs around somewhere between the smooth, clear delicacy of Karen Carpenter and the tougher edges of Joan Armatrading, it's hardly surprising that she's risen from a young unknown to become a household name. She first captivated the media and her audience in 1990, when her independent single, 'Standing Proud', was chosen to represent Glasgow in its year of culture.

The same decade saw Carol team up with Stuart Adamson to produce a series of songs that will no doubt be seen as a legacy to the talent of the late Big Country singer / songwriter. Carol has also collaborated with Jane Weidlin of the Go-Gos, Ryan Hedgecock of Lone Justice and Australia's Cheryl Beattie.

In 1997, Carol took a study break - supposedly - but in between achieving her MA Honours Degree in Politics & English Literature at the University of Glasgow, she couldn't resist branching out into other aspects of the media and made her debut presenting shows for both BBC Radio and Scottish Television.

The noughties shaped up to be another busy decade her. As well as touring new areas such as Iceland, she has performed across the UK and Ireland with Eliza Gilkyson and appeared at Glastonbury - something of a highlight, when she not only shared the bill with Billy Bragg, but met her hero, Tony Benn.

With eight albums under her belt, the most recent The Bones of It (Vertical Records) released in February 2016.
