Psych-A-Holics Surf Shack Presents:The Kundalenie Genie,Mad Gerald,R.L.E, I Am Pluto

After having a sabbatical, The Psych-a-holics Surf Shack is back. This time in Leith at Brig Below with a top lineup of 4 acts a bigger and better lightshow and plenty of decor to celebrate. Very happy to have The Kundalini Genie through from Glasgow for this. Expect Psychedelic rock’n’roll, inspired heavily by both 60’s psychedelia and the modern revival movement. Catchy 60’s-esque hooks, heavy psych sounds, driven melodically by guitars, keys and sitar. Most recently supporting the Brian Jonestown Massacre at The Barrowlands.

Two of our favourite bands are returning for this Mad Gerald who are an international mish mash of psychedelic grooves or as they put it. Encapsulating musical experience from across time and space. enough punch to knock out a raging bull. Elating groove-smoothie of stirring psychedelic rock. A vortex of sexual nuances.

Real Life Entertainment are a 5 piece dual fronted punk fresh psych rock band from the Shire to rock the shack for the first time in a while with plenty of new tunes. After winning the Pogues Whiskey botb finals they've been busy recording, touring (including a uk tour with Cabbage) and writing alot of new material. "Part Roses. Part Joy Division. One almighty exclamation mark." - Louder Than War Magazine

Very pleased to have I AM PLUTO playing his first show with us , a talented Edinburgh Based Solo Artist Playing Psych spangled folky goodness.

Very limited tickets available online or instore from Tickets Scotland on Rose Street, Edinburgh. https://tickets-scotland.com/t2153

Phil is a contemporary singer/songwriter who has earned excellent reviews from the national press, with his thought provoking songwriting and energetic live performances drawing comparisons to Neil Finn, Glenn Tilbrook and Ben Folds.

During his live shows, he makes a real connection with the crowd, whether it's handing out dozens of egg shakers, or passing around his "doodle book" for the audience to draw in. Every now and then you'll catch him unplugging his guitar and shunning the stage to stand right in among the captivated audience.

Kitty Macfarlane Live at Brig Below

It would not be a stretch to say that Kitty Macfarlane is one of the most exciting folk singer/songwriters on the scene. Her debut album, Namer of Clouds, was released earlier this year and has picked up high praise from The Guardian, Mojo, fRoots, and The Observer, as well as getting played by Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2, and by Mike Harding's Folk Show.

Originally from Somerset, her songs are vivid and poetic, inspired as much by the natural world as folk traditions. In the intimate basement setting of Brig Below, this is the perfect chance to introduce yourself to her music.

Watch Kitty Macfarlane - Man, Friendship: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk54H-OWCn4

Support comes from Edinburgh singer/songwriter/composer Jim Harbourne.

Jim's debut play, The Myth of the Singular Moment, performed at Summerhall during this year's Edinburgh Fringe, and will be following that up with a run at Vaults Festival in London in the New Year. Lorna Brooks & Amy Duncan

A regular night held by the talented singer songwriter Lorna brooks and joined by a special guest each time. This time Joined by Amy Duncan. Full Bio below. Tickets are £8 and available via this link https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/lorna-brooks-amy-duncan-tickets-52219495918

Nowadays it is a rare thing indeed to find a voice that has character and is unmistakeable as the artist- Lorna is such a rarity. Her records have been described  as ‘songs of beauty, distinction and subtlety shot through with fragility and delicacy’ Musician Magazine

But it’s the bluesy grit and determination in her songs that have attracted some truly legendary artists to work with her like Loudon Wainwright III, Janis Ian, Martin Stephenson, James Grant, BertJansch, John Martyn, Jimmy Somerville , Eric Bibb and Eleanor McEvoy to name but a few

She is no slouch when it comes to touring either…. She has toured Europe and the UK extensively, often with a full band and more recently acoustically stripped back ( arguably the best way to hear and enjoy her performance) with simply guitar and voice. She is about to embark on some dates with a more residential feel, as ‘Lorna PLUS’ during which she will highlight some new material and some old favourites with guest appearances.

AMY DUNCAN
is a solo music artist who writes emotive songs, combining intimate lyrics with acoustic guitar loops and instrumental textures. Working with one of Scotland’s finest producers Calum Malcolm (Prefab Sprout, The Blue Nile) led to Amy’s 4th album Cycles of Life being released on Linn Records in 2013 and since then she has gone on to record a further 2 albums with him ‘Undercurrents’ (2016) and ‘Antidote’ (2017).

Spacey, introspective, contemplative, acoustic pop with touches of Jazz and of classical minimalism” fRoots

"A crystalline sound world, with confidently poised delivery and bittersweet delicacy." Jim Gilchrist, The Scotsman

A Night of Jazz Ft Barbara Raimondi With Dave Toule Organ Trio

Barbara Raimondi is an astonishingly talented singer, composer and jazz educator who has been a prominent member of the Italian jazz scene for over 20 years. With 5 highly acclaimed albums to her name, she's performed throughout Italy and around the world - including performances at Ronnie Scotts, Pizza Express and London’s ReVoice! Festival. She's covered a huge range of styles within the jazz idiom during her career - from her album of beautifully arranged original compositions featuring London's Basquiat Strings (Accoppiamenti Giudiziosi), to her incredible tribute to Ornette Coleman in which she vocalises his original solos ("making it a triumph" according to Jim Mullen!), and her stunning vocal treatments of standards in duo with Sandro Gibellini (Chet Baker's guitarist). Throughout her career she has worked with a host of prolific Italian and global jazz artists like Jim Mullen, Antonio Forcione, Tony Kofi, Enrico Pieranunzi, Emanuele Cisi, Furio Di Castri and countless others. On this occasion she will be accompanied by the Edinburgh based Dave Toule Organ Trio, featuring Huw Rees (Organ) and Max Popp (Drums). “Barbara Raimondi Is a cultured and professional singer, with a natural voice control, the one never out of range. A high class voice, elegant and clever.” Franco Mondini – La Stampa (On her album ‘Singing Ornette!!’) “In taking on this most challenging of projects-- to sing the music of Ornette Coleman-- Barbara Raimondi has made it a triumph. Singing both wordlessly and with her own lyrics, she perfectly captures the bittersweet moods of Ornette's complex melodies.” Jim Mullen “An exceptional Italian singer, Barbara Raimondi, performed a supremely understated and heartwarming set” Peter Quinn – Jazzwise ------

You can see footage of her performing at the following links, and on her website https://www.barbararaimondi.net/: The Missing (based on Ornette’s ‘The Blessing’) with Tony Kofi, Furio Di Castri & Enzo Zirilli: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXh-P85Wde8 Fina Estampa - a Latin American piece performed at Pizza Express with Enzo Zirilli & Roberto Taufic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuRh7w7gscs Social Media: http://pleaseseebioforvideolinks
